Robin & Heron News – 11 December 2022

Waking up to snow this morning, my love for the classic picture book “Little Robin Red Vest” by Jan Fearnley felt all the more appropriate – the robin gives away all of his warm vests to the rather chilly animals he encounters in the snow. With this in mind, there are lists below of our superb festive picture books and our favourite new books on nature and the environment.

Christmas Picture Books

Nature and the Environment

On the subject of Christmas, we also have some lovely cards available in store by local artist Alice Ormiston. They feature a variety of animals getting into the festive spirit and come in two sizes (small: £3.50; large: £3.95). Call by the shop if you want your round robins to be round rockhopper penguins instead this year.

Since our last newsletter, we’ve also launched our own Heron Books vouchers – for anyone who is finding it just too difficult to decide which book to give someone. They are available in denominations of £10, £25 and £50 on our website, or a range of other values in the shop.

You might also want to consider, as a super gift for yourself or for someone else…

Book group subscriptions, starting in January:

Our fiction book group will be held on the last Wednesday of every month, starting 25th January. Our non-fiction book group will be held on Mondays each month (starting 23rd or 30th January, to be confirmed). Both groups will begin at 6.30 and run until 7.45pm.

As the shop is rather small for sitting around comfortably, we’ll be holding both groups in the upstairs room at The Lansdown pub, just a few minutes’ walk from the Clifton Arcade (there is no obligation to buy a drink).

£11 a month covers the cost of the book and our running costs; if you already own that month’s book, we’ll offer a book of your choice of equivalent value. Get in touch if you’d like to buy a subscription for you or someone else (you can choose how long you’d like to sign up for).
