And Other Heron Stories

Heron Books partners with publisher And Other Stories for Independent Bookshop Week – 15-22 June

We are delighted to be working with And Other Stories for Independent Bookshop Week.

And Other Stories is an independent not-for-profit publisher, whose books are among the most innovative and boundary-pushing works we have read. We herons have always been particularly drawn to their short fiction, their poetry and their many translated works. And, when they launched their new series design, we may have melted a little at its sleek simplicity, centring the author’s words.

Join us for some or all of our plans throughout Independent Bookshop Week.

Celebrating short fiction, enter our flash fiction competition, from now until Sunday 16th June.

Saturday, June 15th: Unveiling our And Other Stories displays, with window art by the superb Emily Juliet Stevens.
Throughout the week, the focus will be on And Other Stories titles which we love, old and new. Temporary tattoos will be handed out all week with purchases of And Other Stories books.
(We’re not stopping you from marking the occasion more permanently should you wish to…)
We also have a poetry reading that evening from 6pm with Ralf Webb and Florence Grieve.

Monday 17th June, 6.30pm: short fiction book group will meet to discuss Black Vodka by Deborah Levy.
Do pop in to sign up or send us an email.

Thursday 20th June, 6.30pm: poetry group will meet with publisher and translator Stefan Tobler to discuss Pitch & Glint by Lutz Seiler.
Do pop in to sign up or send us an email.

Saturday 22nd June, 5pm: join us in the shop to enjoy a drink and hear the shortlistees of the flash fiction competition read their work. The winner, chosen by Stefan Tobler, will be announced and presented with a prize bundle of AOS books.
