Twinkling lights are adorning the Clifton Arcade, stock of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” is in and a little potted Christmas tree is sitting outside the shop (no heron atop it, just yet).
With that in mind, we write with some gift suggestions in the links below. Categorisation is a constant source of discussion where books are involved and we debated mentioning Cerys Matthews’ retelling of Under Milk Wood in every list. Instead we settled on giving it prime position in the newsletter. This is a beautifully illustrated, hardback version of Under Milk Wood, in which the vast cast of characters dance off the page and the colours seem to sing in the lyrical tones of Dylan Thomas (or Richard Burton).
We have also joined up with a wonderful artist who makes stunning linocuts, Sophie Lewisohn, to offer a really special present. One of our favourite linocuts by her incorporates the tales from Hans Christian Andersen. For £100 we are selling a beautiful cloth-bound edition of Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated with 28 full-colour plates and this print. Do email or ring if you’d like to order and we will have the print and the book delivered to you directly.
