• Julian Baggini Faces The Music

Bristol Folk House 40a Park St, Bristol

Heron Books is delighted to support the Bristol Humanists' summer solstice fundraiser and social.

The forces of Julian Baggini, philosopher and writer, combine with the musical talent of Inivisible Apples.

Come and have fun, listen to great music, drink, eat and chat and raise money for two very worthy causes. The Invisible Apples will play 2 unplugged sets from their album ‘The Golden Threads and Invisible Lights of Duka’, and in between will be ‘in conversation’ with Julian Baggini about their collaboration, how they create their work and why humans create music.

  • Music for Poetry in Herons: Steve Page

Heron Books 7a Regent Street, Bristol, United Kingdom

We are doing things a little differently in June! Celebrating the start of Independent Bookshop Week, rather than a poetry reading we are delighted to host our first gig, with songs inspired by great books. Steve Page is best known as the front man of blues americana band Blind Justice Page. Steve’s songwriting has always been inspired by the world of literature. Tonight every song has an author to thank for its genesis. Homer, Barbara Kingsolver, Anne Michaels, Annie Proulx, Jane Smiley, TC Boyle, Denis Johnson, Truman Capote, and Toni Morrison, are all in the mix. A selection of reading. Entry is free but it would be lovely to know if you are coming: please email read@heronbooks.co.uk. Some standing, some sitting; if you have any requirements, do let us know in advance.

  • Herons Go Partying with Blind Justice Page

The Lansdown 8 Clifton Road, Bristol, United Kingdom

Join us for our annual party at The Lansdown

Come for the literarily-inspired music. Stay for the musically-inspired book chat.

Steve, aka Blind Justice Page, will be playing songs inspired by his favourite authors.
Lizzie will be dressing as her favourite book cover.
    Harry will be there.
    You can dress up too.
    You don't have to.

An initial drink or two will be provided by us. Lots more available from the good folks on the bar. This should be one to remember. If through a fuzzy haze of festive bubbles.
18.30ish start. Music from 19.00. Stay as long as you like. (Within reason.)

  • Music in the Heronry: Keith Warmington and Graham Nicholls

Graham is a guitarist with a staggering ability to play in any number of genres and is to be found playing in many different bands.
