  • And Other Herons – Independent Bookshop Week

    We are delighted to be partnering with publisher And Other Stories for Independent Bookshop Week, 15-22 June. Full details of everything we are planning to celebrate this superb literary publisher here. There will be short stories, there will be poetry, there will be a competition to win some BOOKS, there will be herons, there will be temporary tattoos, there will be more books. And Other Delights.

    Join us for a discussion of one our favourite titles, Black Vodka by Deborah Levy. 
    We'll meet at 6.30 in the upstairs private room of The Lansdown pub. 
    To sign up, pop in and buy a copy of Black Vodka or let us know if you need this delivered to you. If you already have a copy, we just ask that you buy a different book published by And Other Stories... have you read Boulder yet? You must.

  • Poetry book group – Independent Bookshop Week

    Poetry book club! Come along to discuss poetry collection, Pitch & Glint by Lutz Seiler, translated by Stefan Tobler. This is a particularly special occasion as publisher and translator Stefan will be joining us for the discussion.  
    We'll meet at 6.30 in the upstairs private room of The Albion pub. NOTE THE VENUE CHANGE - WE ARE MEETING AT THE ALBION.

  • Independent Bookshop Week – Partnership with Foundry Editions

    Throughout Independent Bookshop Week, we are delighted to be partnering with Foundry Editions to celebrate their stunning books. Look out for our Foundry window display and art work, book club reading one of our absolute favourites published by Foundry and a very special event with Chiara Valerio celebrating the publication of The Little I Knew.  More about Foundry: Foundry Editions was set up in 2023 out of a love for discovering and sharing new voices, a love for the Mediterranean and the people and lands that surround it, and a love of internationalism and reading across borders. We are on a mission to uncover authors who are new to English speakers, and to share the joy of reading their stories, which come from a part of the world that has always been a source of cultural and emotional inspiration for English language readers.

  • Chiara Valerio: The Little I Knew

    Heron Books is delighted to welcome Chiara Valerio to celebrate the publication of The Little I Knew.

  • Tom Cox: Everything Will Swallow You

    Independent Bookshop Week is of course the best week (so good it lasts nine days, 13-21 June) of the year. In 2026 we are delighted to spend it celebrating all things Tom Cox. We can't wait to press his books into your hands and to be joined by the man himself for an event in the shop on Tuesday 16th June. 

    Please join us for a drink and discussion of Everything Will Swallow You, Tom's latest novel which will be freshly out in paperback just in time for IBW.

    After the discussion there will be a chance to get your stacks of Tom Cox books signed. Something to swallow, in the form of a drink, will also be on offer. Herons and swallows both welcome. Please RSVP to read@heronbooks.co.uk.

    Tom Cox is the author of sixteen books, including the Sunday Times-bestselling The Good, The Bad and The Furry and the Wainwright Prize-longlisted 21st-Century Yokel. His first short story collection, Help The Witch, won a Shirley Jackson horror writing award. Everything Will Swallow You is his third novel. He was born in Nottinghamshire and now lives in Dorset.
