SUMMARY:Children's Literature Festival: Picture Book Workshop with Yasmeen Ismail
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Clifton Children’s Literature Festival\, join author-illustrator Yasmeen Ismail for a fun afternoon at Heron Books. \nYasmeen will read from her most recent book\, The Family Quiz written by Robert Tregoning\, and guide you through a crafting activity.\nThere will also be an opportunity to get your books signed!\nSuitable for ages 3+ \nThe event is free but space is limited. Please RSVP to read@heronbooks.co.uk to reserve a place. \nIrish-born\, Bristol-based Yasmeen Ismail is an award-winning author\, illustrator and animator. Yasmeen studied at art school in her hometown\, Dublin. After graduating\, Yasmeen moved to London where she worked on many different projects ranging from advertising and short films to children’s publishing. After a few years of working hard in London Yasmeen changed career and began writing and illustrating picture books. Her illustrations are bright\, fluid and full of energy and movement. She loves to work with anything that will give her bright colours and good marks on the page. Yasmeen loves to experiment and expand in all areas of her work and is constantly trying new ways to improve her writing and drawing. Yasmeen has now illustrated over 15 books and has written 12 of them. She continues to make books everyday. When she’s not painting or writing you can find her doing the laundry. On occasion you may see Yasmeen out and about. Perhaps doing a show or visiting a school. She loves to make kids laugh and loves it even more when they make her laugh. She lives in Bristol with her husband\, their two little children\, and Betty the cat.

SUMMARY:Natalie Bennett: Change Everything – How We Can Rethink\, Repair and Rebuild Society
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to support this event organised by Bristol Talks. Natalie Bennett\, Green Party member of the House of Lords\, will be in conversation with Andrew Kelly. \nNatalie will be discussing her book\, Change Everything\, a practical and hopeful guide for anyone who wants a route map to a fairer\, greener future. \nAbout the book\nWe are living in a social\, political\, economic and environmental emergency. The status quo is profoundly unstable; change is inevitable. Now is the time to get together to build a far healthier and more balanced world. \nThe decades-old political orthodoxy – that greed is good\, inequality doesn’t matter and we can keep treating the planet as a mine and a dumping ground – has been a recipe for disaster. Our world needs a new vision\, the Green vision. From Universal Basic Income to fee education\, from less stuff but more life\, to genuine democratic opportunities for all\, Natalie Bennett brings together a holistic\, hopeful and practical vision for the future. \nThe foundations of Change Everything are conversations with many thousands of people. We need to engage millions to bring together the imagination\, talents and energy of all in order to build and repair our societies. Then a positive future is within our reach. \nDoors open at 7pm. The Folk House bar will be open and we will provide a book stall. The talk is from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Bristol Talks website.
